Liz will be exhibiting new work in a major international exhibition called LOST IN LACE at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, UK, starting the 29 October 2011. Lost in Lace will explore the relationship between textiles – specifically lace – and space through site-specific installations. Liz will participate with her 4 m x 1,3 m textile installation “The Latticed eye of memory”.

“Lace has for a long time inspired me because it has an ethereal nature not unlike that of memory. In my work, circles are cut away from the surface to create open, lace-like structures which integrate the play of light and shadow into the work. The principal concept for my work concerns memory traces. It is the mental architecture of memory that fascinates me: the way in which we memorise experiences, how memories capture a place in time, and how they shape our reality. My piece “The latticed eye of memory” for the LOST IN LACE exhibition consist of 14, individually printed and laser cut textile squares. They are suspended in the space with access for the viewer to move around the piece and through this discover new visual perspectives. With this piece this piece want to invite the viewer to get drawn into the visual play of the layering and repetition in the work.

Bite size is an exhibition of miniature works from 51 artist that professor Lesley Millar has curated. The participants are drawn from a particular fifteen-year relationship developed over many projects, and this exhibition will be the first time that their works will be shown together. Those taking part represent some of the most important contemporary textile practitioners inJapan and the UK, alongside some of the most exciting emerging talents.
